Haribo Tropifrutti

Haribo

It thought this was going to be a new kind of gummy, but I just wanted something a little more different. The selling point of these gummies is a new and unique texture. I think the concept is supposed to be a harder gummy outside and a soft gummy centre. I would say that the soft gummy centre is okay, but the harder gummy outside is still way too soft. For this candy concept to work, you need the outside to be almost crunchy, and the inside to be gooey. Now the outside is just a little harder than the centre and the centre is like a slightly softer regular gummy bear. While I like the idea of these gummies, the textures needs to have much more contrast for it to work.

Flavour wise I was both happy and disappointed, depending on the flavour of the gummy. The pomegranate and passion fruit gummies were great (sadly they were both the flavours I had the least number of). The pineapple was fine, not my favourite but not disappointing either. While the mango/tangerine gummy tasted fine, I tasted way more tangerine than mango and the flavour combination just didn’t make sense to me. The banana and watermelon gummies were my least favourite, mainly because I’m not a big fan of fake banana or fake watermelon flavours and that’s exactly what these were.

It’s probably also worth mentioning the shapes of these gummies. Although not a big deal, the shapes are a little confusing at times. Each flavour could be the shape of the fruit they’re supposed to taste like, except maybe the passion fruit, that looks a little weird. However, the gummies might also be the shape of a random bird as well. While I will say the theme is a little confusing, I kind of liked it. It kind of makes sense, but then there’s a bit of randomness built in as well.

I can’t say I was disappointment with these gummies, but I think they could have been so much more. I like that Haribo is playing with gummy texture and trying something new. Maybe this is just the testing faze of this kind of gummy, and maybe in the future they’ll try something with a little more contrast in texture. The fruit flavours were fine, but didn’t really go with the texture theme. It’s kind of a mixed up gummy treat idea, but I applaud the effort.
