I had a hard time trying to break this bar apart, both flavour wise and physically. There’s so much going on with this bar, and trying to figure out what each component is, is kind of challenging. While there are some similarities to a classic Manner bar, there are also some big differences too. The big similarity is that this is a wafer forward bar. Manner makes some of the best wafer bars out there, and this one continues that trend. The fillings on this bar are where things get a little weird. First of all the bar is covered in chocolate, it’s a nice coating and works perfectly. The next layer appears to be some kind of cream, as it’s the only filling that’s not brown. Below that is a layer of what appears to be chocolate, but with some kind of nut. My assumption is that it’s hazelnut nut, based on the flavour. There’s also a layer of chocolate on the bottom of this bar as well. The wafers might also be a little different, maybe thicker than the average Manner bar, but I’m not totally sure about that.
While the look and design of this bar is very complicated, the flavour is not. This bar tastes like a wonderfully creamy, chocolate and hazelnut bar. It’s as if all of these layers somehow balance out to a perfect Nutella like flavour. I’m not too sure if it’s really a balance, as it could be that the chocolate and hazelnut layer just overpowers everything else. In my mind however I want to believe that it’s actually a balance instead. I attempted to take this bar apart and taste each part separately, but it really doesn’t come apart very well. I managed to taste the cream and the hazelnut spread separately, and they tasted great. Neither was overpowering, and each tasted very different.
Manner bars really break many of the rules when it come to wafer bars. As always they have a way of making the wafer the starts of the show, but without losing any of the flavour of the fillings. In this case it seems like they attempted to make a bar that’s the sum of all its parts, and when together makes a wonderful chocolate and hazelnut creamy flavour. This might be my favourite Manner bar so far, and once again proves that it’s possible to make awesome wafer based chocolate bars.
